Borrl is a private diary of your nights out that you share with people you choose. This page says what we collect, why we collect it, and how to get rid of it. It is deliberately short, because we collect little.
Who we are
Borrl is operated by [to confirm: registered entity name, address, KvK number]. You can reach us at info@borrl.app.
What we collect
- Your account. First and last name, username, email address, a password (stored hashed, never in plain text), and a profile photo if you add one.
- What you post. Photos, captions, the drinks you log and when, the venues you check into, comments, likes, the people you tag, and who you follow.
- Location, only while you are using the app. When you tag a venue we use your device's location to find places near you. Borrl never requests background location and cannot see where you are when the app is closed.
- Camera and photo library. Used to take or pick the photos you attach to a night. We only receive the photos you actually choose.
- Reports and blocks. If you report content or block someone, we keep a record so we can act on it.
What we do not collect
No analytics, no advertising networks, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifiers. Borrl contains no third-party SDK that profiles you.
Why we are allowed to
- To provide the service you signed up for — your account and the nights you post (performance of a contract).
- Location, camera and photo access run on your permission, which you grant in the operating system and can withdraw at any time in your device settings (consent).
- Keeping the service safe — acting on reports, enforcing blocks (legitimate interest).
[to confirm with counsel: the bases above]
Who else sees it
- People you choose. A private account is visible only to followers you approve. Blocking someone hides you from them in both directions.
- Radar (radar.com) receives your approximate coordinates when you search for a nearby venue, so it can return a list of places. It receives no other data about you.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and our infrastructure.
We do not sell your data, and we never will.
How long we keep it
Your content stays until you delete it or delete your account. [to confirm: retention period for backups, and for reports and blocks after an account is deleted]
Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your account, the nights you posted, your comments, your likes, and your place in other people's follower lists. It cannot be undone. You do not need to email us and we will not try to talk you out of it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and take it elsewhere. Email info@borrl.app and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handled it you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Children
Borrl is about alcohol and is intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this page we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
